How to use the AI Product Optimizer?
The AI Product Optimizer improves your product content so it's easier for AI platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity to understand, recommend, and cite, while also strengthening your Google SEO.

AI Product Optimizer rewrites your product content so AI assistants and search engines can better understand, discover, and recommend your products. It works across product titles, descriptions, meta titles, meta descriptions, image alt text, and FAQs.
You can optimize products manually whenever you want, or use Autopilot to automatically optimize new products as you add them to your store.

A few things worth knowing up front:
Autopilot only applies to new products. When enabled, new products are automatically sent through the optimizer. Your existing products are not automatically changed.
Existing products can still be optimized in bulk. Select the products you want from the optimizer and click Optimize Selected.
Optimization and publishing are separate. Autopilot can create optimized suggestions without automatically publishing them.
You choose what gets published automatically. We recommend automatically publishing Meta title, Meta description, and Image alt text, while keeping Product title, Product description, and FAQs for review first.
You're always in control. Fields that aren't set to auto-publish stay under Needs Review until you approve them.
Your existing content stays unchanged until an optimization is published.
How Autopilot works
Autopilot has two separate settings:
1. Optimize new products automatically
When enabled, StoreRank automatically generates optimized content for every new product you add, up to your monthly credit limit.
This creates AI suggestions for the fields you've selected in your Product Optimizer settings. It does not automatically change or publish your product content by itself.
Important: Autopilot does not automatically optimize your existing products. If you want to optimize products that are already in your store, use the bulk optimization workflow described below.
2. Publish improvements automatically
This setting controls what happens after an optimization has been generated.
You can choose exactly which fields are allowed to go live automatically:
Search results only
Meta title
Meta description
Image alt text
These aren't normally visible on your product page. They affect how search engines and AI systems read and understand your products.
Shown on your product page
Product title
Product description
FAQs
These are visible to shoppers, so you may prefer to review them before publishing.
Our recommended setup
We recommend enabling automatic publishing for:
β Meta title
β Meta description
β Image alt text
And keeping these for review:
β¬ Product title
β¬ Product description
β¬ FAQs
This gives you the benefit of continuous optimization for search and AI without automatically changing the customer-facing content on your product pages.
You can change these settings at any time under AI Product Optimizer β Settings.
What happens when a new product is added?
When Autopilot is enabled:
You add a new product to Shopify.
StoreRank automatically analyzes the product and generates improvements for the selected fields.
Fields you've allowed to auto-publish can go live automatically.
Other fields are saved as suggestions and appear under Needs Review.
You can review, edit, and publish those remaining changes whenever you're ready.
So you can let StoreRank handle the repetitive optimization work while keeping control over the changes that matter most.
What "Needs work" means
Every product is measured against a set of content checks, for example: does the description exist and have enough substance, is the meta title the right length, do all images have alt text, are FAQs present, and is the relevant product information available for AI and search engines.
Each product gets a Health score showing how many checks pass. Your whole catalog rolls up into a Catalog Health percentage at the top of the page, so you can see at a glance where you stand and what's missing.
By default, the optimizer only generates content for fields that are empty or failing a check. It skips fields that already pass, so you don't overwrite good work or spend credits where you don't need to.
You can change this in AI Product Optimizer settings if you'd rather optimize all selected fields instead.
Optimizing existing products
Autopilot is designed to automatically handle new products going forward. For products that already exist in your store, you can optimize them whenever you want using the regular optimizer.
Open AI Product Optimizer from your StoreRank dashboard.
Use the tabs to focus your work:
Needs Work for products with the most to fix
Review Changes for products with drafts waiting for you
All to see everything
Select one product, several products, or use Select all to work in bulk.
Click Optimize or Optimize Selected.
Tip: Start with your best-sellers and the products that already get AI traffic. That's where improvements can matter most.
Step 1: Choose your products
For existing products, select the products you want to optimize.
You can work on a single product, select multiple products, or optimize your catalog in bulk.
Step 2: Optimize
Click Optimize or Optimize Selected.
The AI generates draft improvements for the fields that need work:
Product title
Product description
Meta title and meta description
Image alt text for your product images
FAQs
On the Professional plan and above, Smart FAQ uses real customer questions and high-intent search queries rather than generic AI-invented questions, so the answers are based on what people actually ask.
For manual optimization, nothing is published at this stage. The generated changes are saved for you to review.
Note: To display FAQs on your product pages, make sure to follow our guide for displaying FAQs.
Step 3: Review and edit
Open a product with the Review button to see the review screen.
Here you can:
Compare your current content against the AI-optimized version, side by side.
See a live Google preview and AI shopping preview.
See what's strong and what's still missing.
Edit any field directly.
Uncheck a field if you want to keep your original content.
Tip: Review FAQ answers with your brand voice in mind. Smart FAQ is a strong starting point, but small tweaks can make them sound more like your brand.
Step 4: Publish
When you're happy with the changes, click Publish all changes or publish individual fields.
Only the fields you approve are published.
With Autopilot enabled, the same principle applies automatically: fields you've selected for automatic publishing can go live without review, while everything else waits under Needs Review for your approval.
Once published, the product shows Changes Live in its status, and its Health score updates to reflect the improvements.
Tip: For larger catalogs, you can optimize and publish products in batches to keep things manageable.
Step 5: Keep it fresh
Product content and search behavior change over time, and AI platforms tend to favor content that's current and complete.
With Autopilot enabled, new products are automatically optimized as you add them, so you don't have to remember to run them through the optimizer manually.
For existing products:
Revisit your top-sellers periodically.
Optimize products that are missing important content.
Keep an eye on your Catalog Health over time.
Use your AI traffic and mentions data to identify products where further optimization could be valuable.
A note on results
The optimizer makes your product content as complete and well-structured as possible for AI and search engines. That's the part you control, and it's an important foundation.
Whether a product actually gets recommended or cited by AI also depends on factors beyond your product pages, such as your store's overall authority and which other websites reference your brand.
You can track how your brand actually appears in AI answers using the AI Search & Visibility tab.
